Sony Settling Up To $65 To The People Who Bought The Original PS3

Original PS3: TOKYO, JAPAN – Remember all that cash you dished from PS3 video games back in the day? Well, you might be qualified to get some of that cash back.

Many buyers of the original PlayStation 3 recorded a class action lawsuit against the Sony company recently because of the company trying to originally distribute the console as a computer and declaring you could run Linux onto it. Sony never experienced with that idea because of a security issue.

Sony Settling Up To $65 To The People Who Bought The Original PS3

Sony shed the case and now has to spend $3.75 million to settle the lawsuit. The five plaintiffs collected $3,500 each while the remaining money has been split between other Ps3 purchasers, attorneys and settlement organizers. By the end of the day, customers are eligible for $65.

How To Inform If Your Gaming Console Is Roofed In The Settlement:

The console edition covered in the settlement is the original Ps3, often called the “fat PS3,” because of its size compared to the later on models. Apart from the size, the defining visible feature separating the “fat” version from the newer and slimmer versions is usually a white strip on the front deck.

Some special or limited edition versions of the gaming console will come in other color schemes, or built in the design of well-known Sony PlayStation-exclusive video games. Identifying whether versions are included in the settlement needs contacting Sony to verify the serial model and number.

Ways To Get Your Little Bit Of The Settlement:

To make your claim to get dollars from Sony, you should do the following:

  • Have purchased the Ps3 between the dates from Nov. 1, 2006 and April 1, 2010.
  • Have made the buy from an certified PlayStation merchant in the United States.
  • The purchased console will need to have been bought brand-new, not a floor model or used.
  • Claim you used the “Other OS” features and believe your gaming console lost the worth when Sony patched it. You need to attest under penalty of perjury when performing this, as well.
  • Fill out this form and give your PlayStation 3’s serial number and/or your PlayStation Network register information.

The deadline to enroll your claim is April 15.
